National-level specialized and innovative “little giant” enterprises are considered the top performers among my country’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and are hailed as the “reserve team for manufacturing industry champions.” Their selection involves multiple rounds of rigorous screening, including local recommendations, provincial-level preliminary reviews, expert evaluations, and public公示 (public announcement). The core criteria focus on four dimensions: specialization, refinement, distinctiveness, and innovation capabilities. These enterprises are required to have a leading market share in their niche sectors nationwide, possess core technologies with independent intellectual property rights, have R&D investment intensity higher than the industry average, and demonstrate refined operational capabilities in production management and product quality. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, over 12,000 enterprises nationwide participated in the application process, but only slightly over a thousand were ultimately selected, resulting in a selection rate of less than 10%, highlighting the prestige of this honor.

With 15 years of experience in the trailer manufacturing industry, Yufei Trailer has consistently positioned itself as a company focused on “heavy-duty transportation equipment and creating exceptionally reliable products.” It has built a solid technological foundation in specialized heavy-duty transportation sectors such as coal, mining, and infrastructure. Since 2018, the company has maintained R&D investment at over 5.2% of its annual revenue, far exceeding the industry average of 3.1%. Currently, it has established an 86-person R&D team led by two experts who receive special government allowances from the State Council. This team has developed a core technology cluster in three key areas: high-strength structural design, intelligent braking control, and lightweight material applications. As of December 2025, the company had accumulated 12 invention patents and 38 utility model patents. Two of these patents, “High-Manganese Steel Integrated Reinforced Frame” and “Adaptive Heavy-Duty Braking System,” fill gaps in domestic technology. These achievements have been incorporated into the company’s main products, resulting in a 42% increase in trailer frame lifespan compared to similar products in the industry, and a 37% improvement in braking safety during real-world testing on bumpy mining roads.

In the area of industry standard setting, Yufei Trailer has played a leading role. In recent years, the company has led the development of six national and industry standards, including the “Technical Requirements for Heavy-Duty Flatbed Semi-Trailers” (T/CNHTA 008-2023) and participated in the revision of the “General Technical Conditions for Container Transport Semi-Trailers” (GB/T 16560-2022). By transforming its practical experience into technical specifications followed by the entire industry, Yufeng has promoted the transformation of heavy-duty trailer manufacturing from “scale expansion” to “quality improvement.”

Thanks to its products’ characteristics of “high load capacity, high durability, and low energy consumption,” Yufei Trailer has established a sales network covering all 31 provinces and municipalities in China, achieving an 8.3% market share in the domestic heavy-duty trailer market. Its market share in the coal heavy-haul transportation sector even exceeds 12%. The company serves over 2,000 large logistics companies, including Anjie Logistics and Yuancheng Logistics, as well as key infrastructure units such as China Railway Construction Corporation and China Communications Construction Company. Its customized trailer products have been successfully used in national key projects such as the Xiong’an New Area infrastructure construction and the coal transportation for the Menghua Railway, cumulatively saving customers over 300 million yuan in transportation and maintenance costs.

“Being selected as a national-level ‘specialized, refined, and innovative’ small and medium-sized enterprise is both an honor and a heavy responsibility for Yufeng,” said the chairman of Yufeng Trailer at the company’s celebration ceremony. “We will take this as a new starting point. In the next three years, we plan to increase our R&D investment ratio to 7%, focusing on two cutting-edge areas: hydrogen energy heavy-duty trailers and intelligent connected transportation systems. At the same time, we will expand our intelligent manufacturing workshop in Jining, Shandong, increasing the production capacity of core components by 50%.” He revealed that the company has collaborated with the School of Automotive Engineering at Chang’an University to jointly establish a “Joint Laboratory for New Energy Technology in Heavy-Duty Trailers.” The first batch of hydrogen energy trailer prototypes is expected to complete road testing in the second quarter of 2026.

Industry experts point out that Yufei Trailer’s inclusion in the list provides a typical example for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises to pursue a path of specialization, refinement, and innovation. Currently, my country’s heavy-duty transportation equipment industry is facing the dual opportunities of new energy transformation and intelligent upgrading. “Little giant” enterprises, with their technological advantages in niche areas, will become the core force driving the high-end development of the industry.
